The Specialist

I set up appointments at Boston Children's Hospital and University Orthopedics in Providence. Because this is a rare condition it is wise to get more than one opinion. It felt like a kid a Christmas waiting for Christmas Day to come. We consulted in Boston first because they could see us sooner. I remember driving down Longwood Ave the street Boston Children's is on and feeling very small in the shadows of the buildings surrounding us. After entering the parking garage, we quickly realized why they told us about valet parking. Navigating their parking garage was like putting a square peg in a round hole. They were not designed for vehicles larger than a matchbox car. We meet with the Dr. and he basically verified what we already knew concerning diagnosis and treatment. After the long 2 hour drive home we digested what we heard and experienced. A week later we went to see Pediatric Orthopedist in Providence (initially our appointment was not until August 15th!!). The Dr. we consulted with basically said the same things for a diagnosis and treatment.

After seeing both Drs. we were left with trying to figure out which Dr. we would seek treatment with. This was not been an easy decision. Having a rare medical condition means not all Drs. are qualified to treat you. Boston Children's was just ranked #1 in the Pediatric Orthopedics in the country for the 4th or 5th year in a row and trained in the treatment Caleb will require. So why not go there? The Dr. in Providence also has the same training as the Drs. in Boston, which we are very fortunate for. So we decided through researching and talking with other patients in the practice that we will seek treatment in Providence. This makes sense having Jadon and Moriah to factor in and the potentially long road of orthopedic treatment ahead of us.
